Just got done with another custom order, this time it's for Ginger at Serendipity Beyond Design. She wanted a scarf that would match her new Pumas! So here we go...Blue-faced Leicester, angora, and mohair locks. SUPER soft...
I love doing custom orders! People have such fun ideas. I also took pics of the complete process so Ginger could post it on her blog, so I'm sure those will be popping up on here soon as well.
In Buttoney news...we are going home this weekend for Will's best friend's bachelor party, so I'll have a bajillion hrs. in the car to finally finish my Buttoney. Hopefully.
Whew! Done with the custom order that has been a few weeks in the making. It was the most fun evah! This really cool mom wants to make some cool hats for her kids (and I also made some yarn for her, but it's a little more subdued!) And here it is...
Otter Pops! This yarn was crazy to spin because the big poofs of blue mohair and silver tinsel were hard to get through the orifice on my wheel. But it's SO soft and floofy it was well worth it...It's so soft, like velvet. Like buttah. Like velvet buttah...
And this yarn glows in the dark! It's called "Joker" and is inspired by Batman of course. It has so many different fibers and crazy-ness going on, and I plied it with glow-in-the-dark neon green thread...
And here's the yarn for the mom. It's my "Little Night Music" colorway. Ya know...the one that is a tribute to my favorite artist, Dorothea Tanning. It's spun up in Blue-faced Leicester and is SO crazy soft. Like a cloud...
For giggles click me.
I love it.
Almost done with my big custom orders I've been working on, and then I will be dyeing and posting more yarn in my Etsy. yep.
xoxo
So I'm now going to start selling my yarn at NW Handspun Yarns! It's only the coolest little fiber art shop in Washington! So if you are ever in the Bellingham area stop by and snuggle some Spindelicious handspun.
I'm working on what is probably the funnest custom order I've ever done. Making yarn for funky kid's hats! Here's a glimpse: This is the roving, in the dyeing stage, for the neon sweet Otter Pops! (yes, with an exclamation point) yarn:
And here is the Batman inspired neon green and black Joker yarn, pre-plying. I'm plying both Otter Pops! and Joker yarns with shiny neon and glo-in the dark thread!
My Buttoney deadline has been pushed to the weekend of Sept. 29th. We are going home for my husband's best friend's bachelor party, so I'll have total 12 hrs. in the car. I think I can finish it then and if I can't then I'm the world's slowest knitter.
Just got an e-mail from Ginger at Serendipity Beyong Design that she posted on her blog the gorgeous scarf that she made with one of my most favorite handspun yarns I ever made, Midsummer Night's Dream...
It's SO cool to see what people do with the yarn I make!
Well, back to my dye-pots...
xoxo
We are going to see Feist at the Paramount next month, and then in December...Tori!! (Amos, that is.)
Melanie of Lotus Yarns already knit up the yarn that I made her into this beautiful, funky, awesome scarf! It looks so snuggley and cozy I want to squeeze it
Here's my latest Buttoney progress. It's coming along. I'm semi-afraid it's gonna be a wee bit big, but oh wells
Many b-days are approaching. That means many projects are in the works. That means I hope I can finish my Buttoney before October...
It's fall. That means it's raining constantly here in the NW. I'm sick of trying to keep my ringlet-y hair straight. I'm growing it out as of now. Not long long...just long enough that the curls can be free. Curly haired girls you know what I'm talking about...
And...new yarn. I'll post it on Monday I think. Also, on Monday I'll be dyeing 5 pounds of fiber for lots and LOTS of new fall yarn. Sock yarn anyone?..I'll be spinning up a super yummy sock yarn blend of superwash merino, kid mohair, and nylon.
So I got the nicest e-mail from Melanie of Lotus Yarns this morning:
"Holy Sh!t Beth,
Dude.
Got my yarn just now. It's freaking amazing. Your pictures of it were great, but they don't even begin to do it justice. Thank you soooo much!
And I just have to tell you that I love your packaging. Where did you get your cool paper and labels and stamp? They're truly awesome!
<3 Melanie"
Here's the yarn I made for her
I love yarn love!...and check out her Etsy. Her coloways are luscious. I especially love Amber.
In other news our camping trip has been canceled...but we are going to indulge in a marathon of The Office Season 3!!!! yay!
I'm so bummed about this.
*one lone tear falling*
In other news, Wilhelm has his gigantor comps exam today that will determine the rest of our lives...well not quite, but it is a big deal in the grad school realm. And then we are going camping! WHHEEEEE!
xoxox
p.s.: new LIMITED EDITION 2-ply Mulled Wine going up in my shop 2day!
B there or B L7.
Buttoney progress!...Almost ready to put the sleeves on seperate holders and work straight on the body for awhile...aka: it's almost an official sweater
Handspun yarn! Will list tonight on Etsy store. It's my Limited Edition yarn for September called "Mulled Wine." The fiber is a local blend of fine wool with a little bit of mohair and it was dyed by a local fiber artist as well, hence the "Limited Edition" status. I'm going to be featuring a limited edition yarn once a month in my Etsy store...I'm obsessed with handspun yarn. I want a pool of yarn to swim in, a bed of handspun to lounge in. I can't believe I ever settled for acrylic commercial crap (no offense to those who use acrylic...). Although I am sort of a hypocrite because I am still crocheting the star afghan with Caron's Simply Soft:
And of course it helps to be able to spin my own handspun.
Anyway, here is my latest handspun for my Etsy shop. Aptly titled "Brisk" because, well, you know...it's getting to be brisk outside, and it will soon be silvery-frost-on-your-window and pumpkins-on-your-doorstep kinda weather. My favorite.
And my beloved Buttoney is coming along nicely. I did start it over though so I could do the button bands and all that in seed stitch instead of garter. But, because I have issues with having about 5 million wip's, I found 2 more amazingly cute sweaters by the same girl, Katie Marcus, who created the Buttoney pattern, and now I'm obsessed with making this: Gah I wish she'd post some more patterns. Oh and let me tell you how much I looooove Ravelry. I heart Ravelry. I lurve Ravelry. Oh Ravelry, how did I live without thee?
